Birmingham Patriots (Lake Balboa, CA) backers exited the stadium thrilled Thursday as they saw their softball squad nip the host Calexico Bulldogs (Calexico, CA), 7-5 in a non-league challenge.

The Patriots now own a 6-5 record. They take the field next when they travel to San Benito for a non-league challenge on Thursday, April 14. Birmingham will battle a Haybalers squad coming off a 12-2 league win over Gilroy (Gilroy, CA). The Haybalers record now stands at 9-5.

With the loss, Calexico falls to 12-6 on the campaign. The Bulldogs travel to Calipatria (Calipatria, CA) to battle the Hornets in a Desert challenge on Tuesday, April 26. The Hornets enter the challenge with a record of 11-4. Calipatria won 26-5 in their recent non-league challenge against Mountain Empire (Pine Valley, CA)
