In Wednesday's non-league match, the host Waltonville Spartans softball team scored a tight 8-2 victory over the Goreville Blackcats.

The Spartans (9-5) will now prepare for their match against Crab Orchard (Marion, IL). The Trojans go into the non-league match with a 17-0 record. In their last match, Crab Orchard tipped Hamilton County (McLeansboro, IL), 7-6, in a non-league match.

In their next game, the Blackcats battle the Trico Pioneers (Campbell Hill, IL) in a Black Diamond West match, on Thursday, April 17. Goreville will attempt to better on its 4-9 season record. The Pioneers go into the match with a 6-6 record after their 6-3 non-league win over Sparta (Sparta, IL).
