The Springfield Cougars lacrosse squad scored 7 points and limited the host Northport Tigers to 4 in the Cougars non-league triumph on Thursday.
The Cougars now hold a 11-1 record. They take the field next when they host Cardinal Gibbons for a non-league challenge on Tuesday, April 22. Springfield will clash with a Crusaders squad coming off a 16-3 league win over Broughton (Raleigh, NC). The Crusaders record now stands at 14-1.
With the loss, Northport falls to 0-1 on the year. The Tigers travel to Ward Melville (East Setauket, NY) to clash with the Patriots in a Section 11 I challenge on Thursday, April 24. The Patriots go into the challenge with a record of 1-0.
Game Summary
After a dominant win yesterday for the Cougars in New York, they jumped right back into it today against a top 5 team in the State of New York. Both teams traded a goal just minutes after one another in the 1st Quarter leaving the score 1-1 after the first. After Northport took the lead in the 2nd, Springfields Brad Barber and Patrick Flaherty added goals giving them the lead going into halftime. The Cougars defense and goaltender showed strong in the 3rd holding Northport scoreless which tacking on 2 goals of their own. Going into the 4th with a 5-2 lead, both teams scored 2 one after another. Springfield would like to thank Northport High School for hosting a very intense cross state game over Spring Break!
