North Carolina High School Softball - Ashe County succumbs to Watauga

April 23, 2026: West Jefferson, NC 28694

In Thursday's non-league test, the Watauga Pioneers (Boone, NC) softball squad overwhelmed the host Ashe County Huskies (West Jefferson, NC), by a tally of 13-5.

Next, the Pioneers clash with the St. Stephens Indians (Hickory, NC) in a Northwestern 6A/7A test, on Friday, April 24. Watauga will attempt to advance on its 12-9 season record. The Indians go into the test with a 5-16 record after their 11-10 non-league loss to West Caldwell (Lenoir, NC).

The Huskies (7-13) will now prepare for their test against Starmount (Boonville, NC). The Rams go into the Mountain Valley 2A/3A/4A test with a 15-6 record. In their last test, Starmount was routed by West Stokes (King, NC), 3-0, in a non-league test.
