Springfield Senators (Springfield, IL) backers exited the stadium thrilled Monday as they saw their softball squad nip the host Athens Warriors (Athens, IL), 4-3 in a non-league challenge.

The Senators now own a 12-3 record. They take the field next when they travel to Lanphier for a Central State Eight challenge on Tuesday, April 25. Springfield will battle a Lions squad coming off a 18-0 league loss to Glenwood (Chatham, IL). The Lions record now stands at 0-13.

With the loss, Athens falls to 4-7 on the campaign. The Warriors host Williamsville (Williamsville, IL) to battle the Bullets in a Sangamo challenge on Tuesday, April 25. The Bullets enter the challenge with a record of 8-8. Williamsville won 3-1 in their recent non-league challenge against Sacred Heart-Griffin (Springfield, IL)
