West Carteret Patriots (Morehead City, NC) backers exited the stadium thrilled Wednesday as they saw their softball squad nip the host East Carteret Mariners (Beaufort, NC), 4-2 in a non-league challenge.

The Patriots now own a 5-12 record. They take the field next when they travel to Swansboro for a Coastal 3A challenge on Friday, April 26. West Carteret will battle a Pirates squad coming off a 9-5 league loss to Dixon (Holly Ridge, NC). The Pirates record now stands at 5-9.

With the loss, East Carteret falls to 9-9 on the campaign. The Mariners travel to Northside - Pinetown (Pinetown, NC) to battle the Panthers in a Coastal Plains 1A/2A challenge on Thursday, April 25. The Panthers enter the challenge with a record of 12-4. Northside - Pinetown lost 2-1 in their recent league challenge against East Carteret (Beaufort, NC)
