Athens Warriors (Athens, IL) fans exited the stadium thrilled Monday as they saw their softball squad nip the visiting Carlinville Cavaliers (Carlinville, IL), 11-8 in a non-league challenge.

The Warriors now sport a 5-11 record. They take the field next when they host Olympia for a Sangamo challenge on Tuesday, May 2. Athens will face a Spartans squad coming off a 10-3 non-league win over Normal University (Normal, IL). The Spartans record now stands at 18-3.

With the loss, Carlinville falls to 16-6 on the campaign. The Cavaliers travel to North Mac (Virden, IL) to face the Panthers in a South Central challenge on Wednesday, May 3. The Panthers enter the challenge with a record of 11-6. North Mac lost 13-1 in their recent league challenge against Staunton (Staunton, IL)
