Carterville Lions (Carterville, IL) backers exited the stadium thrilled Friday as they saw their softball squad nip the visiting Marion Wildcats (Marion, IL), 5-2 in a non-league challenge.

The Lions now own a 30-1 record. They take the field next when they host Mt. Vernon for a non-league challenge on Saturday, May 11. Carterville will battle a Rams squad coming off a 6-1 league loss to Centralia (Centralia, IL). The Rams record now stands at 14-16.

With the loss, Marion falls to 27-5 on the campaign. The Wildcats host Red Bud (Red Bud, IL) to battle the Musketeers in a non-league challenge on Monday, May 13. The Musketeers enter the challenge with a record of 25-8. Red Bud lost 1-0 in their recent league challenge against Wesclin (Trenton, IL)
