Cocke County Fighting Cocks (Newport, TN) backers exited the stadium thrilled Monday as they saw their softball squad nip the visiting Sevier County Smoky Bears (Sevierville, TN), 5-2 in a non-league challenge.

The Fighting Cocks now own a 8-9 record. They take the field next when they travel to South Greene for a non-league challenge on Tuesday, May 3.

With the loss, Sevier County falls to 13-9 on the campaign. The Smoky bears host Morristown-Hamblen West (Morristown, TN) to battle the Trojans in a 4A District 2 challenge on Tuesday, May 3. The Trojans enter the challenge with a record of 10-6. Morristown-Hamblen West won 12-2 in their recent non-league challenge against Seymour (Seymour, TN)
