Mt. Vernon Wildcats (Mt. Vernon, IN) backers exited the stadium thrilled Monday as they saw their softball squad nip the visiting Evansville Memorial Tigers (Evansville, IN), 7-3 in a non-league challenge.

The Wildcats now own a 10-8 record. They take the field next when they travel to Princeton for a Pocket challenge on Tuesday, May 3. Mt. Vernon will battle a Tigers squad coming off a 6-2 league loss to Heritage Hills (Lincoln City, IN). The Tigers record now stands at 2-8.

With the loss, Evansville Memorial falls to 5-9 on the campaign. The Tigers travel to Castle (Newburgh, IN) to battle the Knights in a Southern Indiana challenge on Tuesday, May 3. The Knights enter the challenge with a record of 17-6. Castle won 15-1 in their recent league challenge against Evansville Reitz (Evansville, IN)
