Chariho Chargers (Wood River Junction, RI) backers exited the stadium thrilled Sunday as they saw their softball squad nip the host Westerly Bulldogs (Westerly, RI), 7-5 in a non-league challenge.

The Chargers now own a 7-12 record. They take the field next when they travel to Pilgrim for a Division 1B (State) challenge on Monday, May 22. Chariho will face a Patriots squad coming off a 6-0 league win over Smithfield (Esmond, RI). The Patriots record now stands at 14-1.

With the loss, Westerly falls to 11-9 on the campaign. The Bulldogs host Middletown (Middletown, RI) to face the Islanders in a Division 2 challenge on Tuesday, May 23. The Islanders enter the challenge with a record of 2-12. Middletown lost 6-0 in their recent league challenge against Burrillville (Harrisville, RI)
