St. Mary's Spartans (Lynn, MA) backers exited the stadium thrilled Friday as they saw their softball squad nip the host Cardinal Spellman Cardinals (Brockton, MA), 5-1 in a league challenge.

The Spartans now own a 9-4 record. They take the field next when they host Swampscott for a non-league challenge on Saturday, May 25. St. Mary's will face a Big Blue squad coming off a 9-5 league win over Salem (Salem, MA). The Big Blue record now stands at 6-11.

With the loss, Cardinal Spellman falls to 5-14 on the campaign. The Cardinals host Norwell (Norwell, MA) to face the Clippers in a non-league challenge on Saturday, May 25. The Clippers enter the challenge with a record of 11-5. Norwell won 10-6 in their recent league challenge against East Bridgewater (East Bridgewater, MA)
