In Thursday's non-league match, the visiting Newton Cardinals softball team scored a tight 8-1 win over the Knoxville Panthers.

The Cardinals (3-2) will now prepare for their match against Pella Christian (Pella, IA). The Eagles come into the Little Hawkeye match with a 0-3 record. In their last match, Pella Christian was routed by Clarke (Osceola, IA), 8-6, in a non-league match.

In their next game, the Panthers battle the Cardinal Comets (Eldon, IA) in a South Central match, on Friday, May 30. Knoxville will attempt to better on its 0-3 season record. The Comets come into the match with a 1-2 record after their 8-1 non-league loss to Washington (Washington, IA).
