Mt. Carmel Golden Aces (Mt. Carmel, IL) backers exited the stadium thrilled Friday as they saw their softball squad nip the visiting Newton Eagles (Newton, IL), 12-10 in a league challenge.

The Golden Aces now own a 12-7 record. They take the field next when they host Marshall for a Little Illini challenge on Monday, May 6. Mt. Carmel will battle a Lions squad coming off a 8-5 non-league loss to St. Joseph-Ogden (St. Joseph, IL). The Lions record now stands at 18-8.

With the loss, Newton falls to 21-6 on the campaign. The Eagles travel to St. Teresa (Decatur, IL) to battle the Bulldogs in a non-league challenge on Saturday, May 4. The Bulldogs enter the challenge with a record of 5-13. St. Teresa lost 7-5 in their recent non-league challenge against Peoria Notre Dame (Peoria, IL)
