Carterville Lions (Carterville, IL) fans exited the stadium thrilled Thursday as they saw their softball squad nip the host Newton Eagles (Newton, IL), 7-2 in a non-league challenge.

The Lions now sport a 23-3 record. They take the field next when they travel to Glenwood for a non-league challenge on Saturday, May 6. Carterville will face a Titans squad coming off a 6-2 league win over Rochester (Rochester, IL). The Titans record now stands at 20-1.

With the loss, Newton falls to 21-4 on the campaign. The Eagles travel to Tolono Unity (Tolono, IL) to face the Rockets in a non-league challenge on Saturday, May 6. The Rockets enter the challenge with a record of 22-7. Tolono Unity won 1-0 in their recent league challenge against Illinois Valley Central (Chillicothe, IL)
