Illinois Valley Central Grey Ghosts (Chillicothe, IL) backers exited the stadium thrilled Wednesday as they saw their softball squad nip the visiting Deer Creek-Mackinaw Chiefs (Mackinaw, IL), 3-2 in a non-league challenge.

The Grey Ghosts now own a 16-14 record. They take the field next when they travel to Eureka for a non-league challenge on Thursday, May 9. Illinois Valley Central will face a Hornets squad coming off a 5-3 league win over Fieldcrest (Minonk, IL). The Hornets record now stands at 7-19.

With the loss, Deer Creek-Mackinaw falls to 14-9 on the campaign. The Chiefs travel to Heyworth (Heyworth, IL) to face the Hornets in a non-league challenge on Saturday, May 11. The Hornets enter the challenge with a record of 12-11. Heyworth won 6-5 in their recent league challenge against El Paso-Gridley (El Paso, IL)
