Akron-Westfield Westerners (Akron, IA) backers exited the stadium thrilled Friday as they saw their softball squad nip the visiting River Valley Wolverines (Correctionville, IA), 8-5 in a non-league challenge.

The Westerners now own a 12-8 record. They take the field next when they travel to West Sioux for a non-league challenge on Monday, June 26. Akron-Westfield will battle a Falcons squad coming off a 11-5 non-league loss to Hinton (Hinton, IA). The Falcons record now stands at 4-15.

With the loss, River Valley falls to 14-13 on the campaign. The Wolverines host Western Christian (Hull, IA) to battle the Wolfpack in a non-league challenge on Friday, June 23. The Wolfpack enter the challenge with a record of 7-12. Western Christian won 12-10 in their recent non-league challenge against Unity Christian (Orange City, IA)
