The crowd at Saturday's non-league bout between the Mt. Vernon Mustangs (Mt. Vernon, IA) and the visiting Newton Cardinals (Newton, IA), observed Mt. Vernon's softball team prevail over Newton by a tally of 9-1.

The Mustangs (7-2) will now prepare for their bout against Center Point-Urbana (Center Point, IA). The Stormin' Pointers go into the non-league bout with a 4-7 record. In their last bout, Center Point-Urbana was routed by Iowa City (Iowa City, IA), 8-7, in a non-league bout.

In their next game, the Cardinals battle the Twin Cedars Sabers (Bussey, IA) in a non-league bout, on Saturday, June 7. Newton will attempt to advance on its 5-7 season record. The Sabers go into the bout with a 2-4 record after their 11-3 non-league win over Lamoni (Lamoni, IA).
