Bellevue West Thunderbirds (Bellevue, NE) backers exited the stadium thrilled Thursday as they saw their softball squad run past the visiting Omaha Northwest Huskies (Omaha, NE), 18-1 in a league challenge.

The Thunderbirds now own a 1-0 record. They take the field next when they host Lincoln High for a non-league challenge on Friday, August 19. Bellevue West will battle a Links squad coming off a 14-2 league loss to Lincoln Southeast (Lincoln, NE). The Links record now stands at 0-1.

With the loss, Omaha Northwest falls to 0-1 on the campaign. The Huskies host Papillion-LaVista (Papillion, NE) to battle the Monarchs in a A District challenge on Monday, August 22. The Monarchs enter the challenge with a record of 4-1. Papillion-LaVista won 2-1 in their recent non-league challenge against Bennington (Bennington, NE)
