North Carolina High School Football - Hertford County nudges Gates County

In Friday's non-league match, the host Hertford County Bears football squad scored a close 26-22 victory over the Gates County Red Barons.

The Bears (1-0) will now prepare for their match against SouthWest Edgecombe (Pinetops, NC). The Cougars enter the non-league match with a 1-0 record. In their last match, SouthWest Edgecombe nipped Nash Central (Rocky Mount, NC), 13-5, in a non-league battle.

The Red Barons now own a 0-1 record. They play next when they host Pasquotank County for a non-league battle on Friday, August 29. Gates County will play a Panthers team coming off a 21-14 non-league win over Holmes (Edenton, NC). The Panthers record now stands at 1-0.
