Arickaree Bison (Anton, CO) boosters left the game thrilled Saturday as they saw their volleyball squad nudge the host Liberty Tree Academy War Eagles (Peyton, CO), 2-1 in a non-league test.
With the win, Arickaree improves its record to 2-0 on the season. The Bison host Bethune (Bethune, CO) to face the Bobcats in a 1A YWKC test on Tuesday, August 27. The Bobcats go into the test with a record of 1-2. Bethune lost 2-0 in their recent non-league test against Elbert (Elbert, CO)
The War Eagles now own a 0-3 record. They put it on the line next when they travel to Primero for a non-league test on Saturday, August 24. Liberty Tree Academy will face a Bulldogs squad coming off a 3-0 non-league win over Sangre de Cristo (Mosca, CO). The Bulldogs record now stands at 1-0.
Match Summary
The Bison again started slow as they worked out kinks in a new lineup, but put it all together to again dominate in the deciding set. The War Eagles came out with a big middle block that took the Arickaree hitters out of their game for the first set. In set 2, setters Gracie Monat and Liz Ramos, running a 6-2 offense from the back row, did a great job of moving the ball around to keep the offense spread evenly between hitters. Raeya Schrock earned 6 kills, Ja'Niya Smith had four, Monat and McKenna Jesses added 3 each, and Janice Kalcevic two more. Smith added a couple stuff blocks of her own.
Kalcevic, Schrock and libero Nevaeh Van Ness each dug up 7 of Liberty Trees attacks, with smith adding 6.
