Lake Balboa College Prep Cougars (Lake Balboa, CA) boosters left the game thrilled Wednesday as they saw their volleyball squad achieve victory over the host Valley Academy of Arts & Sciences Vipers (Granada Hills, CA), 3-0 in a non-league challenge.
The Cougars (2-1) will now prepare for their challenge against Sun Valley Magnet (Sun Valley, CA). The Pioneers enter the Central Valley challenge with a 1-1 record.

With a bulging 20-9 lead in set 1, Lake Balboa frittered it away until it was a street fight. It was an Indiana Jones moment. "Snakes! Why does it have to be snakes!" The Cougars dodged 3 set point Viper strikes. It took LBCP 3 tries of their own before driving home the winning point. Laketown still appeared rattled starting set 3, 0-3. Timeout in Cougartown! Athena Orujyan brings the noise serving & stakes out a 9-4 lead which the Lakeshow never relinquished. Lake Balboa pummeled away 16-10 for the rest of the set. Set 3 starts quickly in the Cougar's favor 3-0. With the score 4-1, super frosh Nare Orujyan goes back to serve. Point after point scores from aces & kills. The smoke clears at 20-1 before Nare is subbed out for promising freshman Edden Ghorghanian who opens it up to 22-1! The jello is jiggling & the butter is hard, LBCP sweeps in 3!
