The Los Alamos Hilltoppers volleyball team (Los Alamos, NM), was dropped 3-1 in Saturday's non-league challenge with the host Carlsbad Cavemen (Carlsbad, NM)
The Cavemen (3-6) will now prepare for their challenge against Roswell (Roswell, NM). The Coyotes enter the non-league challenge with a 4-2 record. In their last challenge, Roswell defeated Portales (Portales, NM), 3-1, in a non-league challenge.
Next, the Hilltoppers meet the Clovis Wildcats (Clovis, NM) in a non-league challenge, on Saturday, September 10. Los Alamos will attempt to move on its 4-3 season record. The Wildcats enter the challenge with a 2-4 record after their 3-0 non-league loss to Moriarty (Moriarty, NM).
Match Summary
The Toppers slept walked into the match against Carlsbad at the Zia Classic. The back row racked up 60 serve / receive / dig errors while the hitters when given an opportunity only managed a .050 hitting percentage. The normally strong blocking for the Toppers averaging 5.7 blocks per set were anemic against the strong hitting Cavegirls, averaging only 1.5 blocks per set. Angelina Passalcqua has a rough match running down poor receive efforts and dig balls that were less than playable most times. The Toppers will need to rebound at 1 p.m. when they face the Clovis Wildcats.
