Fans at Saturday's non-league contest between the Independence Patriots (Coal City, WV) and the host Washington Patriots (Charles Town, WV), observed Independence's volleyball team hold off Washington by a count of 2-1.

The Patriots (6-7) will now prepare for their contest against Buckhannon-Upshur (Buckhannon, WV). The Buccaneers go into the non-league battle with a 6-3 record. In their last battle, Buckhannon-Upshur was edged by Grafton (Grafton, WV), 3-1, in a league battle.

The Patriots now own a 3-10 record. They put it on the line next when they host Spring Mills for a Eastern Panhandle battle on Tuesday, September 16. Washington will encounter a Cardinals squad coming off a 3-0 non-league loss to Hampshire (Romney, WV). The Cardinals record now stands at 6-7.
