The Alexander Central Cougars edged the visiting Elkin Buckin' Elks soccer team by a tally of 2-1 in Thursday's non-league game.
Next, the Cougars face the Ashe County Huskies (West Jefferson, NC) in a Northwestern 3A/4A game, on Wednesday, September 25. Alexander Central will attempt to advance on its 7-3 season record. The Huskies enter the game with a 8-4 record after their 3-0 non-league win over Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, VA).
The Buckin' Elks (5-4) will now prepare for their game against Starmount (Boonville, NC). The Rams enter the Northwest 1A game with a 6-2 record. In their last game, Starmount held off North Stokes (Danbury, NC), 7-1, in a league game.
