In Friday's non-league match, the host Yazoo County Panthers football squad scored a close 27-26 victory over the Newton Tigers.

In their next game, the Panthers face the Humphreys County Cowboys (Belzoni, MS) in a 3A Region 3 battle, on Friday, September 30. Yazoo County will attempt to advance on its 3-2 season record. The Cowboys enter the battle with a 3-2 record after their 38-0 non-league win over Leland (Leland, MS).
