Virginia High School Football - Mecklenburg County nudges Bassett

In Thursday's non-league match, the visiting Mecklenburg County Phoenix football squad scored a close 9-6 victory over the Bassett Bengals.

The Phoenix (1-0) will now prepare for their battle against Halifax County (South Boston, VA). The Comets go into the non-league battle with a 4-1 record. In their last battle, Halifax County nipped Tunstall (Dry Fork, VA), 40-16, in a non-league battle.

The Bengals now own a 2-3 record. They play next when they travel to Tunstall for a non-league battle on Thursday, October 2. Bassett will play a Trojans team coming off a 40-16 non-league loss to Halifax County (South Boston, VA). The Trojans record now stands at 1-3.
