In Friday's league game, the Nixon-Smiley Mustangs (Nixon, TX) football team edged the host Cotulla Cowboys (Cotulla, TX), by a tally of 7-6.

In their next game, the Mustangs face the Poth Pirates (Poth, TX) in a 3A-2 Region IV District 15 outing, on Friday, October 3. Nixon-Smiley will attempt to move on its 4-0 season record. The Pirates come into the outing with a 3-1 record after their 42-6 league win over Karnes City (Karnes City, TX).

With the defeat, Cotulla drops to 2-2 on the year. The Cowboys travel to Stockdale (Stockdale, TX) to battle the Brahmas in a 3A-2 Region IV District 15 game on Friday, October 3.
