The Anderson Raptors football team scored 64 points and restricted the visiting Little Miami Panthers to 0 in the Raptors league win on Friday.
With the win, Anderson advances its record to 3-0 on the season. The Raptors travel to Lebanon (Lebanon, OH) to play the Warriors in a Eastern Cincinnati battle on Friday, September 13. The Warriors go into the battle with a record of 2-1. Lebanon lost 24-14 in their recent league battle against West Clermont (Cincinnati, OH)
The Panthers now own a 0-3 record. They play next when they travel to Walnut Hills for a Eastern Cincinnati battle on Friday, September 13. Little Miami will play a Eagles team coming off a 30-7 league loss to Turpin (Cincinnati, OH). The Eagles record now stands at 1-2.
First Quarter
Anderson won the toss and deferred, and the Raptor defense stood strong, forcing a three-and-out on the first Little Miami drive of the game. The Raptors took over on their own 40, and with 8:51 left in the quarter, senior Durrell Turner ran for a 32-yard touchdown and Jayonn Saunders rushed for the two-point conversion. Little Miami's ensuing drive ended in another punt, and the Raptors put together another solid drive that culminated in an 8-yard rushing touchdown by quarterback Justice Burnam. Saunders passed to Trace Jallick on the two-point try to put Anderson ahead 16-0 with 4:42 remaining in the first. The Panthers were forced to punt on their third straight drive, and Burnam connected with Jallick on a long pass to put Anderson just outside of the red zone with two minutes to go. On fourth and nine, from the Little Miami nine-yard line, Burnam scrambled up the middle for his second rushing touchdown of the night, and Saunders rushed to make it 24-0 Anderson.
Second Quarter
The Raptors opened the second quarter in scoring position after an Ace Alston interception at the end of the first quarter. On the first play of the second, Burnam threw to Jallick for a 4-yard touchdown and Lucas Callahan added the PAT. The Anderson defense forced a fourth Panther punt, and with 8:34 remaining in the half, Burnam found senior tight end Caden Piening for a 66-yard touchdown. Callahan's extra point try was blocked, but the Raptors still held a commanding 37-0 lead. Little Miami punted to Anderson with seven minutes to go until halftime, and another Anderson drive culminated in a touchdown as Nick Pastura caught a Burnam pass from seven yards away. Callahan made the PAT to make it 44-0 Anderson. The Panthers punted on the next drive, and the Raptors took over at their own 47 with three minutes to go. With 2:06 left in the quarter, Burnam notched his fourth passing (sixth total) touchdown of the half on a six-yard pass to sophomore Nick Rosiello to make it 50-0 Anderson.
Third Quarter
Owen Scalf took over at quarterback for the Raptors in the second half, and he led the Raptors downfield on the first drive of the third quarter. A long pass from Scalf to fellow sophomore Tegan Jallick put Anderson inside the red zone at the Little Miami 5-yard line, and Scalf connected with Cooper Kathman with seven minutes left for the eighth Raptor touchdown of the night. Scalf's pass on the two-point conversion fell incomplete, but the lead stood at 56-0. Little Miami punted on its next possession, and Anderson ended the third quarter with possession and another opportunity to score.
Fourth Quarter
With 10:35 remaining in the game, Scalf found Kathman again for a 28-yard Raptor touchdown. Scalf then threw to Maddux Snider on the two-point conversion to extend Anderson's lead to 64. Little Miami's Walker Brewsaugh ran for a couple nice gains, but quarterback Jayshan Sandhar's pass was intercepted in the end zone by sophomore Swing Mullins. The Raptors ran out the rest of the clock and put the capper on a 64-0 shutout win over Little Miami.
