The Glenelg Gladiators (Glenelg, MD) volleyball nudged the host Linganore Lancers (Frederick, MD), 2-1 in Saturday's non-league outing.
With the win, Glenelg upgrades its record to 6-0 on the year. The Gladiators host Atholton (Columbia, MD) to face the Raiders in a Howard County outing on Tuesday, September 12. The Raiders go into the outing with a record of 1-2. Atholton lost 2-0 in their recent non-league outing against Howard (Ellicott City, MD)
The Lancers now own a 1-1 record. They play next when they host Governor Thomas Johnson for a MVAL - Piedmont outing on Wednesday, September 13.
Match Summary
Glenelg did not start well, as Linganore started strong and were well balanced in the first along with winning the serve/pass game. In the second set, Glenelg showed some moxy and both teams battled but Glenelg would pull away in the second set. Glenelg would have to show even more resiliency being down early in the third set but battling back with some key contributions by Isard Bernades, Julia Preston, Avery Hubbard, and Ilyssa Newman. In the end, Glenelg's defense led by Olivia McDonough and Lily Bae would help in Glenelg's final victory of the night and claiming the 2023 Linganore Invitational Championship.
