Cosumnes Oaks was not the first on the board on Friday, but they got there more often. They had just enough and edged out the Franklin Wildcats 5-4. That's two games straight that the Wolfpack have won by just one run.

Amyah Avila made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Onna Swanigan, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Mya Wilson, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Cosumnes Oaks hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive matches.

Cosumnes Oaks now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Franklin, their loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 10-9-1.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Cosumnes Oaks will square off against rival Laguna Creek at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Franklin is set to take on their familiar foe Monterey Trail at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
