Preview: De Beque Dragons vs. Caprock Academy Eagles
De Beque has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Caprock Academy Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. De Beque will be strutting in after a win while Caprock Academy will be coming in after a loss.
Even though De Beque has not done well against Soroco recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. De Beque put the hurt on Soroco with a sharp 54-32 win. De Beque has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four contests by 22 points or more this season.
De Beque's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Avery Rigsby led the charge by dropping a double-double on 24 points and 11 rebounds. Rigsby has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Vines, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 14 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Caprock Academy's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 59-24 loss at the hands of Plateau Valley. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Caprock Academy has suffered against Plateau Valley since February 16, 2021.
De Beque has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. As for Caprock Academy, they dropped their record down to 6-6 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road.
De Beque strolled past Caprock Academy in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 by a score of 39-21. The rematch might be a little tougher for De Beque since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
