Recap: Lakewood Spartans vs. Largo Packers

The Lakewood Spartans pushed their score all the way to 63 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 73-63 hit to the loss column at the hands of Largo. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Wednesday (57), Lakewood still had to take the loss.

Lakewood's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was David Larkin, who scored 21 points along with three steals. Larkin hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Elijah Davis was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with two steals.

Largo got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was David Newton out in front who scored 22 points along with five rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Ellis, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds.

Lakewood dropped their record down to 7-14 with that loss, which was their fifth straight on the road. As for Largo, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a massive bump to their 12-10 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lakewood will take on IMG Academy White on Monday. IMG Academy White has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Largo, they will head out on the road to square off against Seminole at 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
