Baseball Recap: Columbia Academy Picks Up Third Straight Win at Home

Columbia Academy hadn't done well against Oak Forest Academy recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Cougars came out on top against the Yellowjackets by a score of 8-3. This was payback for the Cougars, who suffered a 7-5 loss the last time these two teams met.

Trent Buckley was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2025. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Roman Lawrence, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Reed Duncan also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.

Columbia Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Columbia Academy's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Oak Forest Academy, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.
