Softball Game Preview: Marathon Dolphins vs. Lourdes Academy

The Marathon Dolphins will head out to face off against Lourdes Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Marathon's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs every time they've taken the field this season.

On Monday, Marathon got the win against Colonial Christian by a conclusive 29-14. The Dolphins haven't had any issues with the Patriots recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Marathon got a massive performance out of Maeve Merryman, who scored four runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. Those four runs gave Merryman a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Trinity McLeod, who scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Lourdes Academy's undefeated season came to an end after three games on Monday. They lost 11-3 to Palmetto. The loss was Lourdes Academy's first of the season.

Lourdes Academy saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mia Rivera, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.

Marathon pushed their record up to 3-0 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 9.6 runs. As for Lourdes Academy, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.

Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Marathon hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .432. However, it's not like Lourdes Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .317. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Marathon took their win against Lourdes Academy in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 by a conclusive 8-2. Will Marathon repeat their success, or does Lourdes Academy have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
