Basketball Recap: Grace Gallagher's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Hunter over Taylorsville

Hunter and Taylorsville squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but Hunter had to settle for second. They received a blow as they fell 42-27 to the Taylorsville Warriors. The match marked the Wolverines' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Hunter's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Grace Gallagher, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and 12 boards. Gallagher has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more blocks the last 37 times she's played. Mamakoula Tuitupou-Kutu was another key player, putting up six points and seven rebounds.

Taylorsville's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kaitlin Sterzer, who posted seven points and 12 boards. Taylorsville is 6-3 when Sterzer posts ten or more rebounds, but 5-7 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Tessa Duke, who had four points in addition to eight boards and four steals.

Hunter's loss dropped their record down to 10-14. As for Taylorsville, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-10 record this season.

Hunter does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Taylorsville, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 70-22 defeat against West on the 20th.
