Lynbrook hasn't had much luck against Fremont recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Vikings will welcome the Firebirds at 4:00 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Lynbrook is headed into Friday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Wednesday. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 18-2 to Saratoga, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.
Lynbrook saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Audrey Lee, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one triple. IshanvI Hullur also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, Fremont was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They came up short against MacDonald, falling 12-6.
Jiyah Caban was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Natalie Kim made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Valerie Cuaresma was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one RBI.
Lynbrook's loss dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Fremont, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-6.
Fremont's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Lynbrook hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .319. It's a different story for Fremont, though, as they've only averaged .236. Will they be able to contain Lynbrook's hitters?
Lynbrook suffered a grim 14-4 defeat to Fremont in their previous meeting back in May of 2023. Can the Vikings avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
