Baseball Recap: Mount Vernon Takes a Loss

Mount Vernon and Pottsboro squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but Mount Vernon had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Cardinals by a score of 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Tigers have suffered since March 2, 2024.

Mason Shipp was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits.

On the hitting side, Mount Vernon saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carsen Summerlin, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run. Summerlin is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged two or more in each of the last four games he's played.

This is the second loss in a row for Mount Vernon and nudges their season record down to 20-8. As for Pottsboro, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 16-7-1.

While Mount Vernon had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
