Softball Game Preview: Scituate Spartans vs. Cumberland Clippers

The Scituate Spartans will square off against the Cumberland Clippers at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Scituate is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Rhode Island's top teams: St. Raphael Academy, who was ranked fifth at the time (Scituate was ranked 25th). The Spartans came up short against the Saints on Monday, falling 14-1. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Spartans couldn't push the score so high this time.

Scituate saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Katelyn Chatelle, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. Chatelle is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

Meanwhile, Cumberland was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They lost 10-0 to Ponaganset. Considering the last time the Clippers couldn't score was back in April, the team can't take the result too hard.

Scituate's loss dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Cumberland, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-14.

Scituate might still be hurting after the 8-1 loss they got from Cumberland in their previous meeting back in May of 2023. Can the Spartans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
