Football Preview: Sweetwater Mustangs vs. Breckenridge Buckaroos

The Sweetwater Mustangs will face off against the Breckenridge Buckaroos at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Sweetwater has three straight victories, Breckenridge has nine straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Last Friday, Sweetwater blew past Clyde, posting a 51-14 win. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 351st, while the Bulldogs are ranked 803rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Breckenridge came up short against Comanche on Friday and fell 34-21.

Despite the loss, Breckenridge got top-tier performance from Sawyer Wimberley, who picked up 148 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Wimberley was no stranger to the big play, lighting up the secondary with a catch that went for 52 yards.

Sweetwater has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. As for Breckenridge, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-8.

Friday's game might be decided in the trenches. Sweetwater has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 174.4 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Breckenridge, though, as they've been averaging only 95.2. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?
