Softball Recap: Bruce Comes Up Short

Bruce was the 7-5 winner over Ingomar when they last played one another back in April of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. Bruce took an 11-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of Ingomar on Saturday.

Jessie Hawkins made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two triples, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two triples gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jade Gunnells, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Hawkins wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Bruce kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive matchups.

Bruce's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 7-8. As for Ingomar, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bruce will head out to square off against West Union at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Ingomar, they will venture away from home to face off against Calhoun City at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
