Volleyball Game Preview: Newton South Lions vs. Newton North Tigers

Newton South is 1-7 against Newton North since November of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Lions will venture away from home to face off against the Tigers at 6:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Newton South sitting on four straight wins and Newton North on seven.

Newton South can't be too worried about heading out to take on Newton North: they just beat Westford Academy at home, who had been dominant on their own court up to that point. The Lions came out on top in a nail-biter against the Grey Ghosts on Thursday, sneaking past 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Lions have posted against the Grey Ghosts since September 21, 2020.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Newton North duked it out with Weymouth on Wednesday. The Tigers blew past the Wildcats 3-0.

The 3-0 score doesn't show just how dominant Newton North was: they took every set by at least 11 points. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-6, 25-12, 25-14.

Newton South's record is now 11-6. As for Newton North, their record now sits at 17-2.

Newton South couldn't quite get it done against Newton North in their previous meeting back in September of 2024 as they fell 3-1. Can the Lions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
