Basketball Recap: John Hay Comes Up Short

John Hay was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. The match between John Hay and the North Rangers didn't end well, with John Hay falling 54-38. John Hay was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as North apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Despite the defeat, John Hay saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Carly Fisher dropped a double-double with 15 points and ten rebounds. Fisher is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down eight or more in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Anaiyah General, who posted four points in addition to five rebounds and five steals.

Kaitlin Dobida was her usual excellent self, putting up 29 points and seven boards for North. That makes it 11 consecutive games in which Dobida has scored at least a third of North's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Raegan Perkins-Hirz, who earned nine points.

John Hay's loss dropped their record down to 15-7. As for North, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-10.

John Hay has already played their next game, a 56-49 defeat against Normandy on the 19th. As for North, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 39-38 victory against Shaker Heights on the 19th.
