Football Game Preview: St. Michael the Archangel Guardians vs. Boonville Pirates

The St. Michael the Archangel Guardians will challenge the Boonville Pirates at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

St. Michael the Archangel is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They blew past Knob Noster, posting a 63-21 victory. The win was nothing new for the Guardians as they're now sitting on six straight.

Gage Burgess produced another solid effort rushing for 186 yards and three scores on only 15 carries, while also throwing for 268 yards and three TDs on only 13 passes. That's the most passing yards he has posted since back in September. Luis Tellado was another key player, rushing for 109 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: St. Michael the Archangel was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 399 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

St. Michael the Archangel didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Wyatt Herrman.

Meanwhile, everything came up roses for Boonville against Clinton on Friday as the team secured a 39-7 victory. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 27-0.

Boonville's win came from a few key players St. Michael the Archangel will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Alex McDonald, who rushed for 184 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 7.4 yards per carry. His rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his sixth straight game with at least 175 rushing yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Tatum Hough, who rushed for 45 yards and one score.

St. Michael the Archangel's win bumped their record up to 8-3. As for Boonville, their victory bumped their record up to 8-2.
