Baseball Game Preview: Gresham Gophers vs. Sandy Pioneers

For the second straight game, Gresham will face off against Sandy. The Gophers will welcome the Pioneers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Gresham's hitters haven't had much luck over their past seven matchups, but Thursday's contest will give them a chance to turn things around.

On Tuesday, Gresham came up short against Sandy and fell 6-1.

For Sandy's part, Ashton Culp spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on seven hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kobe Sparks, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and three runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March. Johnathin Silvis was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Sandy has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Gresham, their loss dropped their record down to 2-17.
