League recap: Concord tops Northwest Cabarrus to extend winning streak

3A Conference 7 recap November 5, 2013

Concord extended the longest winning streak in 3A Conference 7 this week by beating Northwest Cabarrus, 52-21. This was the team's 10th consecutive win.

The Trojans fell to Concord 52-21 last week, the largest margin of any game.

Glen Padgett's team's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Keenan Black threw for 83 and 2 touchdowns and Carter Mozingo had 35 yards receiving. On the ground Rocky Reid chipped in 204 yards. Jerry Burk helped Concord's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 14 yards.

The Spiders' dynamic duo of Black and Mozingo proved tough for Northwest Cabarrus to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Burk helped Concord's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 14 yards.

Reid was a passing and rushing force as Concord bested Rich Williams' team.

5-foot-10 quarterback Aaron Kennerly of South Rowan is the league leader in passing yards this season with 926. He has also thrown 4 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Seth Wyrick. The East Rowan star has 28 catches for 442 yards.

One of the league's premier quarterbacks will face off with its top pass rusher when the Raiders and East Rowan face off next week.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Central Cabarrus takes on the Trojans. The Vikings are currently in second, while Northwest Cabarrus is in third.

Cox Mill and West Rowan played the most contested game in 3A Conference 7 this week, with Cox Mill eventually emerging with a 34-29 victory.
