Soccer Game Preview: Lamar vs. Florence

The Lamar Thunder will head out to face off against the Florence Huskies at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Lamar has four straight victories, Florence has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the pitch.

Lamar's defense heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They put the hurt on Bennett with a sharp 5-0 win. Lamar's defense has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a goal in their last four matches.

They hit Bennett with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Josylynn Rodriguez (3), Annabelle Morales, and Tatum Milenski.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Florence's offense. They fell 2-0 to Rye on Thursday.

Lamar's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-3-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up one goal over those five games. As for Florence, their loss dropped their record down to 4-10.

Lamar took their victory against Florence in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 10-0 score. Will the Thunder repeat their success, or do the Huskies have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
