Baseball Game Preview: Cranston East Thunderbolts vs. Mt. Hope Huskies

The Cranston East Thunderbolts will head out on the road to challenge the Mt. Hope Huskies at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

Portsmouth hit Cranston East with a four-run second inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Thunderbolts fell just short of the Patriots by a score of 5-3. The Thunderbolts have struggled against the Patriots recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Jeu Leon put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and two RBI.

Leon wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ethan Torres, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Mt. Hope's offense. They lost 6-0 to La Salle Academy on Tuesday. The Huskies have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Cranston East's record now sits at 5-16. As for Mt. Hope, their record is now 3-17.

Cranston East took their win against Mt. Hope in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 11-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Thunderbolts since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
