Mason County Central never got on the board in their matchup on Wednesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Mason County Eastern on Friday. They blew past the Cardinals 13-5. The result was nothing new for the Spartans, who have now won six contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Aubrey Chye made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, Payton Cory was incredible, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April. Lacie Salander also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
With the victory, Mason County Central broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 7-12. As for Mason County Eastern, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-11.
Coming up, Mason County Eastern will challenge Suttons Bay at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. Mason County Central will be paying especially close attention to the Cardinals' match: after the Cardinals face off against the Norsemen, they'll take on Mason County Central again at 6:15 p.m. on Friday.
