Softball Game Preview: Lassen Grizzlies vs. University Prep Panthers

The Lassen Grizzlies will head out on the road to take on the University Prep Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

On Friday, Lassen came up short against Yreka and fell 10-6.

Meanwhile, University Prep had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 7-1 margin over the Falcons. Considering the Panthers have won nine contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Hailey Pebley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 23 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Addison Petty and Megan Boudro did most of the damage at the plate: Petty went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run, while Boudro went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most hits Petty has posted since back in March. Madisyn Rubalcava was another key player, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.

University Prep pushed their record up to 12-10-2 with the win, which was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.9 runs over those games. As for Lassen, their defeat ended a 13-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 15-8.

Lassen came out on top in a nail-biter against University Prep in their previous meeting back in April, sneaking past 5-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Grizzlies since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
